Mary Lynn Westenbroek

Artist Mary Lynn Westenbroek resides in southwestern Michigan with her husband, Marcel ter Veen. While known mostly for her abstract and whimsical paintings, Mary also paints vivid impressionistic landscapes inspired by travels in Europe and Africa, and landscapes reflecting the natural beauty of the Lake Michigan shores and surrounding areas. In addition to her online gallery, she displays work regularly at Uptown Gallery & Frame Shop and Crow's Cottage--both in Holland, MI, and at Thirdstone Gallery in Fennville, MI. Her works are included in private collections throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Statement:

Mary Lynn WestenbroekTo me, painting is simply a means of self-expression, as are singing, dancing, speaking or writing. That which is being expressed constantly changes. Sometimes it is merely an exploration of color or shape. Sometimes it is what I feel, or a visual representation of what I believe. Occasionally it is what I see; more often it is what I wish I would see. Many times it is the music I hear, and how I imagine the music would appear if I could see it. I believe that art is not an end product in itself, but, like footprints, it serves as a record of where the soul has traveled.
